It was long overdue and the wait was finally over. It was summer of 2015 (July) when Kuya Bob Lim and Ate Christy came by in Las Vegas before going back home to the Philippines. But way before their visit, there were already discussions among us MSUans here in the US and in the Philippines on when the MSUans in the US will organize an alumni association chapter. It was indeed a challenge. When and who were the two top questions.
On September 28, 2015, an official letter from the MSUAA National signed by the MSUAA President Datumanong Sarangani came in the mail, informing the MSUAA-North America Chapter that is has been accredited as a Chapter on September 25, 2015.
By and large, the alumni association is of good standing and has paid its annual dues to the MSUAA.
During the 2016 MSUAA Zamboanga Chapter International Reunion and Convention, three delegates (Serafin Colmenares, Letty Colmenares, and Marilou Morishige) from this chapter attended and the chapter president, Marilou Morishige, was elected as one of the MSUAA Board Members.
The alumni association is registered in the State of Nevada for its purpose: In order to unite ourselves (alumni) for mutual support and benefit, to assist our Alma Mater to accomplish the ends for which it has been established, and to enlighten the MSUAA in the North America region and elsewhere to share their current resources, talents, and efforts with their Alma Mater, cognizant that with the gifts they receive come the responsibility to give back and support the University at large.
The Chapter is expecting that after this convention and reunion, the number of paying alumni members will also grow. We’ve responded to the challenge of who will organize the chapter and when. We did it.
